  • Dishwashers most commonly are damaged by inserting things that don't belong in a dishwasher, some of these include: Baby bottle nipples, corn cob holders, plastic lids (like smaller tupperware etc.), and drinking straws. A good rule of thumb to decide what can or cannot go into a dishwasher is: if you put it on the driveway and hit it with a garden hose stream will it move down the driveway, if the answer is yes then don't put it in the dishwasher.
  • The force used by most dishwashers is intense high power jets or streams of water being circulated inside a closed tub, which will cause lighter items to fly about the interior and possibly ending up in the bottom and melting against the heating element.

TIP

Hot Water

  • Make sure your water is HOT that means around 130 deg F.
  • Run your hot water in the sink before running the Dishwasher, the water in the pipes is cold so running first will make sure your first fill up is with HOT not Cold water
  • Dishes not drying right? Using the tip above will dry your dishes better and provide better cleaning results.

TIP

Detergent

  • My experience has taught me that using the Gimmicky detergents ends with cleaning issues or the possibility of damaging the dishwasher or possibly causing leaking issues.
  • Liquid Detergents have a tendency to separate so make sure you shake them thoroughly before using.
  • The tablets, squares with powerballs, gel pouches etc. I have rarely seen work to any degree with any effectiveness.
  • The best detergents I have seen to work are your normal powders, ie. Cascade, Electrosol etc.
  • This is not an endorsement of those brands only an example like when people refer to Clorox for bleach, or Kleenex for tissue.

TIP

Noise

  • If your installing a new dishwasher or just would like to decrease the noise level of your current dishwasher, either remove the unit or before you install the new unit, acquire some household insulation and tack to the ceiling and walls before inserting the unit. Use cardboard cut to size to compress the insulation then slide the unit in, and remove the cardboard once the unit is set in place but before using the mouting screws or setting the unit level.
  • By doing this you will reduce the speaker box effect causing the sound to amplify.
  • As well as retain the heat inside the unit to facilitate washability efficiency.
