It's been a long hot summer and I have received many calls and complaints about refrigerators not working very well, there is a cause for this.
At the bottom of most refrigerators is a grill and behind it are coils that release the heat being moved from inside the refrigerator. When these become clogged with hair, papers, dust bunnies etc. Your overall efficiency drops dramatically. You should A: purchase the appropriate tool/s for cleaning these coils one of which is a coil brush and clean them a minimum of once a year 2-3 times a year if you have hairy pets that shed. Springtime is the best for this, as the cleaning process once completed will ready your refrigerator for the first hot days to come.
To do this determine if you can easily remove your grill, (most just pull off with two clips on each side holding it in place, while others have two screws that need to be removed to allow grill removal). Using a flashlight inspect your coils and using the coil brush and vaccuum remove any and all debris that has been drawn in and is clinging to the coils. Be Gentle!! Damaging These Coils Will Cause a Large Repair Bill!!
As time permits after the summer overtime season ends I will post other maintenance and repair issues with their solutions.
